The Period House Store has evolved over the years from its beginnings as a Reclamation Yard in the Yorkshire Dales to its current position supplying clients across the UK and Europe with period fixtures and fittings to restore or improve their homes. The company was started when Andrew the company’s founder was renovating a cottage of his own and struggled to find items such as oak and pine flooring, traditional oak and pine doors, cast iron fireplaces, traditional door furniture and cast iron radiators. This sowed the seed and Andrew found some premises at a local farm shop and Dales Reclamation was born. After a couple of years Andrew identified the key areas of the business which were in the main Wooden Flooring, made to measure doors, Victorian and Georgian Fireplaces, Cast Iron Radiators, Period Door Furniture and Free Standing Kitchen Furniture. The company was re-branded as The Period House Store and focused on supplying these items.

The Period House Store was also re-located to the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond, which was central to our market place in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and County Durham. Our website www.periodhousestore.co.uk was developed and this really changed our business. After several months we started getting enquires and orders from all over the UK and Europe and even as far away as the US, Canada and Australia. The most popular items people were enquiring about were Victorian Radiators, Antique Radiators and Traditional radiators, our new fantastic range of reproduction cast iron radiators filled their needs. They are taken directly from original Victorian cast iron radiators. Other Popular enquires were for internal oak doors, cottage doors, Victorian pine doors, External Doors and reclaimed pine doors. The fact we make our period doors ourselves to customers requirements proved very popular. The website went from strength to strength and so did our sales. We found that our competitive pricing structure allowed us to improve our market share particularly in the South of England where prices were much higher.

In tandem with developing our website we were working hard on our showrooms in Richmond which were being transformed into a real life settings with all our products on display. For example our range of oak flooring and pine flooring are all laid and finished, our made to measure oak and pine doors are hung. We have a fantastic range of Georgian and Victorian cast iron fireplaces including cast iron inserts, hob grates, fire surrounds, cast iron combination fireplaces, dog grates all manufactured by Carron Fireplaces. We are also agents for Morso, Jotul, Esse, Town and Country Fires and Dunsley. We have our stoves lit nearly every day. Our kitchens are shown in a working setting. A vast array of door furniture is displayed on the walls including brass door knobs, ebonised door knobs, nickel door furniture, wrought iron door furniture, rim locks and latches, Period letterboxes and door knockers. and we are currently developing a period lighting area with a fantastic range of internal and external period lighting.

Our clients include architects, property developers, building contractors and the general public. We have a friendly knowledgeable sales team who can offer advice on all our products.

The most recent development has been the formation of our sister company The Period Garden Store www.periodgardenstore.co.uk. At our showrooms we had an outside courtyard which we developed to show of our garden products and a website was created to run alongside The Period House Store.
